4th of July Revisited

It's making it from scratch Monday again! I'm sharing this one because my daughter said she wanted baked beans, and I had a can that I got from co-op as a sample, so I opened them and heated them for her. She tasted it and said "I like yours better." :0)

Amy's Baked Beans
2 lbs. navy beans
1 small white onion, diced very small
1/3 cup mustard (yellow or brown)
1/3 cup BBQ sauce
1/3 cup brown sugar (I use Turbinado)
1/3 cup maple syrup

Rinse beans and soak overnight. Drain rinse water and fill again to double the amount needed to cover. Cook beans on medium heat for 2 hours. They should be cooked through but not too soft. Drain again and rinse with cold water. In a large bowl, mix beans with other ingredients. Pour into a baking dish with room for bubbling. Cover dish with foil and bake for 1 hour at 350*.

If you're in a real pinch, you can use canned beans, but rinse well to get rid of all that sodium.

Thank you for that, I was thinking just. recently how nice it would be to have a recipe for American baked beans (which are completely different to English baked beans).

Saved Sinner,

Many Americans like their beans dripping in sauce. If you want to make them that way, either just use one pound of beans or double the ingredients for the sauce. I'm not one for swimming beans.

Rose,

Thanks and welcome! ;)
