Adoption Assistance
For those interested in adopting who may not be able to handle the costs completely, there is a program offering grants called Shaohannah's Hope. This was founded by Steven Curtis Chapman and is named after one of the daughters he and his wife Mary Beth adopted from China. We became supporting members of this organization and a story ran in the local paper about our adoption and we highlighted that possible source of help to those who want to adopt but are daunted by the fees (especially overseas, as, sadly, babies have become somewhat of a commodity). On their website they have clips of Mary Beth going to China early to try and get their baby out when the SARS problem started to take hold. She discusses some of the problems with doing an adoption from so far away. It is a good place for information on domestic adoption as well!
