Renewed Blessing

Today, I washed a dried a load of laundry at home for the first time in nearly 2 years!

Originally, our dryer burned up. It didn't catch on fire, but the motor gave out and the smoke was thick and choking. We did not have the money for a dryer, so we just used the line to dry on. Meanwhile, we were tied into the natural gas line that goes through our land and given free gas, so a friend from church gave us a gas dryer that had been his mother's. We had to complete the piping to the house ourselves, and we still did not have a working dryer, but we did have the washer. When the weather got cold, we started washing at home and hauling everything to the laundromat to dry. Then our washer burned up (again, no fire, but not fixable). So we were doing all our laundry chores in town, and it was a lot of work to get all the baskets loaded up, and out, and in, and back in the house. My husband found a washer at an estate sale, and then we had trouble with our gas lines. The last two weeks have been especially interesting, as the line filled with oil. If you have ever smelled crude oil, you know how lingering and nauseating it is. This also shut down our furnace, and we had a long and sleepless night trying to get that straightened out.

We have spent more hours than we can count trying to get it all fixed, and tonight at 9:00 my husband announced that I could put a load in the washer!!!!!!!!! After that, we put it in the dryer!!!!!!!! We are so blessed, and yet, during all those ups and downs, the Lord always provided. And even without a washer and dryer, and a dishwasher, a car, a stove (it has been a very odd year with so many of our machines breaking) or even just the extra rooms I had hoped to have added on by now, we have so much more than most of the world. And above all, we have salvation in Christ.

What can compare?
