Apple Mad
My husband was raised in a family where the whole 'apple a day' thing was taken very seriously. It is a near emergency if we have no fruit in the house. As comical as it is sometimes to hear him defend his position, I know I am truly blessed to have a man who's 'daily habit' is fruit, of all things. Last year our apple trees didn't do so well, but this year they are everywhere. So we're spending the next few days processing apples. Here is a pile on the big table. That's not even all of them.
We don't spray at all. I would rather have apple scab (freckles) than ingest poison. The very best have already been wiped and packed in layers of sawdust to keep in the root cellar (under the house). The rest will be sorted and graded for sauce, butter, juice, and drying. I also just picked up 2 bushel spaghetti squash, 2 bushel butternut squash, 2 bushel sweet potatoes, and 150 pound of red potatoes. Everything is getting packed away in the larder, and I love that feeling.

Wow that's a lot of apples!
It's a blessing to hear ya stocking away...esp. with winter on it's way. :) Many ladies are doing that now with fruits and what not.
Wow! How wonderful :)
Hi! I am a quiet reader who enjoys your blog very much! My husband and I picked apples for the first time this year at his Aunt's house- what a blast!! We did the juicing, apple sauce and freezing too! What fun for all your kiddos! You'll have to check out our pics on my blog!
